The Emperor 2497: a unique Patek Philippe

Top lot at Christie’s Nov. 9 “Important Watches” auction in Geneva, this shocking 2497 is a one of a kind and prevoiusly unknown specimen and it is one of the most exciting watch discoveries in years. A collector’s dream that comes to light for the first time. Patek Philippe reference 2497 is unquestionably one of the most sought after wristwatch ever made and in this specific case we have the chance to be in front of a never seen and unrestored black dial military style featuring both luminous numerals and luminous, alpha-shaped hands. More over the monogram engraved to the case back evokes the extraordinary provenience which makes it even more desirable. This rare and unique combination was commissioned in 1954 by Ing. Federico Bazzi, entrepreneur and brave pilot of Italian aviation, to be given as a gift to Emperor Haile Selassie I, King of Ethiopia. Years later, the Emperor himself donated this masterpiece to an eminent African personality, whose descendant is now disclosing it to the world. (Image: Courtesy Christie’s)
